La cigale et la fourmi – la suite
A.M. Matte had just discovered Jean de La Fontaine when a school assignment on the theme of ‘Peace’ inspired her to write a happier ending to the fable of The Grasshopper and the Ant.
Her short piece was published in the 4th volume of Les Éditions du Vermillon’s Jongle et ris anthology. It was her first published work and she was 11 years old.
Son of Sun
Inspired by the theme of light, A.M. Matte was twelve years old when she wrote Son of Sun. The short story received an honourary mention in the Commonwealth Essay Competition. Fifteen years later, editor and author Mark Leslie published it in his latest Canadian science-fiction anthology, North of Infinity II.
The North of Infinity II book launch was held at Bakka-Phoenix Books, Toronto, in June 2006. Click here for photos of the event.
Les murs ont des yeux
A.M. Matte’s work in prevention of violence against women inspired Les murs ont des yeux (Walls Have Eyes), a one-act play in which witnesses of violence tell each other what they’ve seen.
The play won the 2008 O’Neill-Karch award, which included a staged reading by Théâtre la Catapulte in May 2009.
