Matte had just discovered Jean de La Fontaine when a school assignment on the theme of &lsquo;Peace&rsquo; inspired her to write a happier ending to the fable of The Grasshopper and the Ant.<\/p>\n<p>Her short piece was published in the 4th volume of Les \u00c9ditions du Vermillon&rsquo;s Jongle et ris anthology. It was her first published work and she was 11 years old.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Son of Sun<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Inspired by the theme of light, A.M. Matte was twelve years old when she wrote <em>Son of Sun.<\/em> The short story received an honourary mention in the Commonwealth Essay Competition. Fifteen years later, editor and author Mark Leslie published it in his latest Canadian science-fiction anthology, <em>North of Infinity II<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>North of Infinity II<\/em> book launch was held at Bakka-Phoenix Books, Toronto, in June 2006. <a href=\"https:\/\/plus.google.com\/photos\/109840073371489394197\/albums\/5601745260187216161?banner=pwa\">Click here for photos of the event<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Les murs ont des yeux<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A.M. Matte&rsquo;s work in prevention of violence against women inspired Les murs ont des yeux (Walls Have Eyes), a one-act play in which witnesses of violence tell each other what they&rsquo;ve seen.<\/p>\n<p>The play won the 2008 O&rsquo;Neill-Karch award, which included a staged reading by Th\u00e9\u00e2tre la Catapulte in May 2009.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>La cigale et la fourmi &#8211; la suite A.M.
